When a daughter searches "home care near me" at night, the first thing she sees is usually a map with three businesses on it. That block is called the local pack or map pack, and for most home care agencies it is the single most valuable spot on Google.
The three factors behind map rankings
Google has said that local results are based mainly on three things:
- Relevance: how well your profile matches what the person is looking for.
- Distance: how close your business is to the searcher, or to the location they named.
- Prominence: how well known you are, based on reviews, links, mentions, and your presence across the web.
You cannot change where your office is, so the work is in relevance and prominence.
Step 1: Fix the basics of your Google Business Profile
Most agencies we look at have a profile that is claimed but not finished. Go through every field:
- Choose the most accurate primary category, and add secondary categories that truly apply.
- Write a description in plain language about who you serve and what you do.
- List your services individually with a short description of each.
- Set your service area to the cities and counties you really cover.
- Add real photos of your office and team, not stock images.
Our Google Business Profile service covers this setup and ongoing management in more detail.
Step 2: Make your name, address, and phone number match everywhere
Your business name, address, and phone number should be identical on your website, your Google profile, and the directories that matter. Small differences, like "Street" versus "St." or an old phone number on an old listing, add up to confusion for Google. Clean them up once, then keep them consistent.
Step 3: Earn reviews steadily
Reviews are the most visible sign of prominence. What matters is a steady flow of recent, genuine reviews and a visible, professional reply from you. Ask clients and family members at the moments they are happiest, and make it easy with a direct link. Do not offer gifts or discounts in exchange for reviews, and do not screen who you ask based on how you expect them to rate you. Both break Google's rules.
Step 4: Build pages that match how families search
Your website supports your map ranking. Create a clear page for each service you offer and for each city you truly serve, and write them for the person reading. Mention the real neighborhoods, hospitals, and local details a family would recognize. Pages that are thin copies with only the city name swapped do not help.
Step 5: Earn local mentions and links
Local chambers of commerce, senior living and hospital partner pages, community sponsorships, and local news all help build prominence. A few relevant local links usually beat a long list of low-quality directories.
How to track progress
Do not rely on searching your own name from your own office. Results change with location. Use a rank tracker that checks from points around your service area, and watch calls, direction requests, and form fills in your Google Business Profile insights.
